After obtaining a mathematics degree at University of Bath, Laurie qualified with Menzies Middleton Hawkins in Farnham before gaining post-qualification training with KPMG Thompson McLintock / KPMG Peat Marwick McLintock in Basingstoke. In 1989 he joined Gilroy & Brookes where he was made a Partner in 1990.
He dealt with a wide range of businesses from sole traders to small/medium-sized companies, and was the firm's specialist in computer accounting software and the not-for-profit sector where he managed the accounts of Residential Management Companies, pension schemes, and charities.
After the sudden death of his business partner, Brian Green, and managing the practice single handed for nearly three years, he decided it was time to take things easier. So after nearly twenty-five years he sold the Aldershot and Alton offices of Gilroy & Brookes, but retained his specialist interest in the Residential Management Company accounts division of the practice, now renamed L P (RMC Accounts).
Laurie plays an active role in the local community as Treasurer of a number of societies and charities dedicated to preserving the areas transport heritage.
After leaving the Isle of Wight and finishing his education, Thomas moved to London in 2006, starting at British American Tobacco plc in the Facilities Management Department.
Leaving two year later he worked for a Management Consultancy in East London as an Assistant Manager part time and a Coordinator for a London based charity while furthering his education.
After meeting his partner and moving to Aldershot he started work at Gilroy & Brookes, in administration and as P A to Laurie Powell, becoming Company Secretary in 2012.
He is currently Company Secretary for L P (RMC Accounts) Ltd, undertaking the legal and administration duties.
Outside of work, Thomas is a keen aviation enthusiast and a keen photographer, particular of vintage cars and civil aviation
